This is a collection of interactive web tools designed for motion picture and stills professionals. These can be used to plan your shoots with camera or format comparisons, framing guide generation, data footprint calculations, camera operating notes, and exposure assistance. The tools can be shared, bookmarked, and saved to help communicate these concepts to crew members who may benefit from the information and working within industry standards.

These tools are a result of my particular filmmaking career experience and research in motion picture productions, working with studios, post houses, production companies, and manufacturers around the world. I started sharing the earliest iterations of these tools in the early 2000s with bespoke designed data sheets. Those were shared globally, which inspired the move to make the information and tools interactive. What you see now is the evolution of the tools / apps along the way.

A NOTE ON ACCURACY
The sensor dimensions, focal lengths, and aspect ratios used in Kader Viewfinder are dynamically sourced from your device’s camera metadata to be as accurate as possible, and the field-of-view calculations are mathematically precise. However, due to the vast number of Android devices on the market — each with different camera hardware, lens configurations, and sensor characteristics — absolute pixel-perfect accuracy across every device cannot be guaranteed. Minor discrepancies may occur between the viewfinder preview and the true equivalent field of view.
To account for this, Kader Viewfinder includes a focal length offset/calibration feature that lets you fine-tune the viewfinder to your specific device in 1mm increments. If you notice the framing is slightly tighter or wider than expected, simply adjust the offset until it matches a known reference. Once calibrated, your device will deliver consistent, reliable results across all sensor and lens combinations.

ARRI Reference Tool, or ART for short, combines the functionality of our previous tools into a single package. You can review clips, check and extract metadata, create and extract look files, and transcode footage to a different format.

The ARRI Reference Tool allows you to render ALEXA 35/ALEXA 35 Xtreme or ALEXA 265 footage using our ARRI Debayer Algorithm ADA-7 and REVEAL Color Science. It is also backwards compatible with all ALEXA and AMIRA cameras, which can be de-bayered to LogC4 and travel through REVEAL as well. At Tech Scout’s core is its camera system. Motion picture image science and film emulation tools have been fully ported to run locally on device, without cloud compute or AI-assisted image processing. Apple's computational photography image pipeline is replaced by wide color gamut, ACES-derived log workflows, standardizing to the same image pipeline film industry professionals work with every day.

Tech Scout has fully native image science support for the Arri Alexa and Alexa 35, the Sony Venice family of cameras, all modern RED Digital Cinema cameras, Fujifilm Eterna, DJI, Canon Log 3, and BlackMagic version 5 color science, as well as both Apple Log and Apple Log 2.
